Boone County, Arkansas borders Missouri to the north and was formed from the eastern portion of Carroll County. It was originally called Boon, since the residents believed it would be a "boon" to all who settled there.
It is Arkansas's 62nd county, formed on April 9, 1869 and it is part of the Harrison, AR Micropolitan Statistical Area - an area consisting of two counties (Boone and Newton) in the U.S. State of Arkansas, anchored by the city of Harrison. Census population count for Boone County in 2010 was 36,903. The county has a total area of 602 square miles and it lies entirely within the Ozark Mountains. The county seat is in Harrison and area towns may include Alpena, Bellefonte, Bergman, Everton, Lead Hill, Omaha, South Lead Hill, and Valley Springs.
