Pioneer Wilderness Trail Ceremony

March 29, 2023 in Harrison, Arkansas our community celebrated the grand opening of the Pioneer Wilderness Trail for Mountain Biking at North Arkansas College. This 2.5 mile track is NICA approved and will allow more of our community's youth to enjoy time outdoors and compete in mountain biking on community teams.

Thank you to the City of Harrison, the HEART Committee, North Arkansas College, Explore Harrison, NWA Trail Blazers, the Walton Family Foundation, Boone County Extension Office, Jagged Axe Trails, and many other volunteers and community members that helped this project come to fruition!

#3 Boone County Library Update

Wilson Marseilles, Vice President of the Harrison Chamber visits with Ginger Shoenenberger, Director of the Boone County Library during National Library week.

We talk about resources for families and children at the library, different programs, and how Ginger has been leading and driving culture at the Boone County Library. "I want people to feel comfortable, this is a place where they can come (and learn)... Knowledge is power and if we want to grow up our next generation, they have to be able to read." - Ginger Shoenenberger.

This week our chamber board meets. We'll celebrate the ribbon cutting at Plaza Tire in Harrison and join Heritage Tractor to celebrate 25 years by planting a tree at the Bark Park. Our Youth Leadership Academy holds their graduation at 4 PM on Wednesday, these 17 juniors in area high schools have spent the last 8 months learning about different parts of our community and sharpening their leadership skills. Thank you Kinetic by Windstream for sponsoring our leadership programs! We'll also go to City Council on Thursday evening for the 1st quarter economic development update to City of Harrison, AR.

Dr. David Mason is the Dean of Workforce at North Arkansas College. David talks about his focus in the position since he started in January 2022 of building community relationships to better serve our top employers and their needs through customizable training. He also discusses micro-credentialing and the role of higher education as it interacts with Chambers and Economic Development Organizations to solve the workforce and skills gaps in communities today.

Boone County Leadership applications open today. On Tuesday we'll celebrate ribbon cuttings at Marie’s Restaurant and On Eagle’s Wings Leadership Center. Thursday the Be Pro Be Proud Truck will be at North Arkansas College all day giving tours and virtual reality for our future workforce. National Signing Day for Career and Technical Education Northark starting at 1:00 PM on Thursday at the JPH Center.
